Location and transport information

University of Winchester is ideally situated in the city of Winchester which has excellent public transport links and is accessible from anywhere in the UK. We are approximately a 50-minute train journey from London and Winchester train station is less than a mile (approximately 15 minutes) from our Main Campus. The bus and coach routes stop at King Alfred’s Statue in central Winchester which is approximately a 20-minute walk. The park and ride system operates daily in Winchester and stops outside the University. We encourage guests to travel by public transport because the availability of parking on campus cannot be guaranteed.

King Alfred Campus

We offer a wide range of flexible spaces across the King Alfred campus, all within easy walking distance of each other. Whether you’re planning a conference, exhibition, or special event, everything you need is conveniently close, main plenary spaces, breakout rooms, exhibitor areas, accommodation and dining facilities.

The Stripe Complex features a 300-seat Auditorium and two adaptable studios, ideal for refreshments or exhibition setups. Just a short walk away, the award-winning University Centre provides a stylish setting for drinks receptions and banquets. For meetings and conferences, the bright and modern St Alphege building, designed with sustainability in mind, offers spaces for 56 to 120 delegates.

West Downs Quarter

Located in the scenic West Downs Quarter, our venues combine heritage charm with state-of-the-art facilities. The West Downs Centre is a purpose-built, highly sustainable conference venue offering a 250-seat auditorium, over 10 breakout rooms, an art gallery, dining hall, courtyard garden, and a terrace boasting one of the best views of Winchester. Designed to host a variety of event formats, it offers flexibility and impact in equal measure.

Next door, the University of Winchester Business School occupies a beautifully restored Grade II listed building. Originally an 18th-century boys’ boarding school, it was refurbished in 2001 to become a light and modern conference and wedding venue. It offers a mix of characterful and contemporary spaces, all conveniently under one roof for both professional and celebratory events.

Our experienced in-house catering team, who have gained a reputation for high quality food, provides the catering at the University. We are proud to be able to offer a wide range of menus, sourced from regional and local suppliers and champion organic, free range and ethically sourced menus.
