Sustainability

Sustainability at AVS

As a collection of unique and diverse Universities delivering the highest levels of not only Education but Research and ultimately Impact on our world, we have a responsibility to our Members and Clients to be the guiding, ethical and actionable support in Sustainability and the SDG (Sustainability Development Goals) while creating thought provoking and innovative events and driving Commercial Income into the circular economy of Universities.

The SDG Goals are broad and specific, leaving an overwhelming sense that we need to tackle all 17 in our venues, but is this realistic or indeed achievable for AVS Members in the Meetings & Events world. University Executive Teams are directing the overarching goals for the whole University landscape and venues benefit from these actions and we can share the whole story of the journey and of course the outcomes.

As for the focus of AVS in supporting Members and Clients in their ‘Sustainable Events’, we want to provide tangible, easy to action takeaways, and those goals that are within our control that we can be the experts in, with access to world leading research and initiatives.

Every event is an opportunity to:

Demonstrate the university’s environmental leadership in action.

Influence delegate behaviour through visible sustainable practices; and

Translate sustainability from policy into lived experience.

These pages will grow with time, as we engage with more case studies and successful and measurable commercial activity and we welcome your stories to build the AVS Sustainability Story…
It’s an expedition, not a jaunt… so grab your bamboo badge and explore!

UN Sustainable Development Goals logo

Sustainability is important across all our member venues and something that is at the forefront of their strategic plans.

We are all committed to the SDG and their 17 Goals to Transform Our World.

The Sustainable Development Goals are a call for action by all countries – poor, rich and middle-income – to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. They recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection.

These are as follows, click on the relevant area to find out how AVS are supporting each goal.
