What inspired Swansea University to join Academic Venue Solutions?
We joined Academic Venue Solutions to give ourselves the opportunity to connect with other venues across the UK, hear about their experiences and share best practice. It also allows us to network with AVS partners and showcase Swansea University to organisers looking for a unique university environment for their event.
For those who haven’t visited before, how would you describe Swansea as an events destination?
Swansea is a unique events destination that combines stunning natural surroundings with excellent facilities. Situated between the Gower Peninsula and the city centre, the location offers something special for delegates. With coastal views, a relaxed atmosphere and great transport links, Swansea provides an inspiring setting for conferences, meetings and events.
What types of events work particularly well at Swansea University?
Swansea University is particularly well suited to conferences, academic events, corporate meetings, training sessions and sporting events. With a variety of lecture theatres, meeting rooms, exhibition spaces and outdoor facilities across our campuses and the Swansea Bay Sports Park, we can host everything from small boardroom-style meetings to large multi-day conferences and sporting competitions.
Universities don’t just have fantastic facilities they have access to academics too, how have Swansea been able to capitalise on this for a specific event?
One of the advantages of hosting an event at a university is the access to world-leading academic expertise. At Swansea, we have supported events where organisers have invited academics to contribute keynote talks, panel discussions or specialist workshops. This adds real value to conferences, particularly in areas such as healthcare, engineering, sustainability and sport science, where Swansea University has internationally recognised research strengths.
What are some of the standout spaces available for event organisers at Swansea University?
We’re fortunate to have a diverse range of event spaces across both campuses. Highlights include the Great Hall Auditorium, with flexible staging and international-standard acoustics, it’s the perfect venue for performances, large conferences and major events. The Great Hall is also located adjacent to our private beach, giving delegates an extra special space to decompress after a long day.
Wallace Building is another standout space, featuring a striking marble foyer, specialised laboratories, a Zoology Museum and versatile spaces that are ideal for exhibitions, research events and film productions.
The Swansea Bay Sports Park also offers outstanding indoor and outdoor sporting facilities that can be used for competitions, team building and large-scale events.
