MEETinLEEDS celebrates Conference Award win against international competition
MEETinLEEDS, the conference and events team at the University of Leeds, is celebrating an exciting award win at the Conference Awards, which took place at the end of June in London. They were awarded Best Partnership or Collaboration for its work alongside the charity Communication Matters, triumphing over tough international competition such as the Global Summit in New Zealand.
MEETinLEEDS and Communication Matters, who have developed a unique and beneficial partnership over the last five years, were awarded for Communication Matters Augmentative and Alternative Communication Annual Conference. Since hosting the Communication Matters Annual AAC Conference at the University in 2013, the relationship between the two parties has strengthened and the conference now attracts many international delegates, with additional events to the annual AAC conference now organised throughout the year.
Communication Matters is a UK based charitable organisation, which works to promote the best possible communication for people with complex communication needs. They deliver training, support research and lobbying, to promote a vision where all individuals have a right to a ‘voice’ through the provision of equipment and ongoing support services. Lee Ridley, otherwise known as Lost Voice Guy and winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2018, is a Patron for the organisation.
The judges from the 2018 Conference Awards commented: “The charity Communication Matters and MEETinLEEDS, the conference and events team at the University of Leeds, have developed a unique and beneficial partnership over the last 5 years with the Communication Matters Annual AAC Conference. This was an outstanding example of long term collaboration at its best. A true example of an excellent partnership and an event that delivers a real positive impact and the ambition from both parties to support and drive for inclusive change is admirable.”
Harriet Boatwright, Sales and Marketing Manager at the MEETinLEEDS, added: “We are so delighted with this truly International win alongside Communication Matters. We work not as client and venue, but as co-delivers. Through our developing relationship we have learnt from each other and worked hard for each other – qualities fundamental to any thriving relationship. I am really proud of the whole team at the University of Leeds for all they do alongside Communication Matters, to ensure we offer so much more than just the venue to an amazing organisation and the colleagues within it.”
