We spoke to Megan about what a week in her role involves… so over to Megan.

The simplest way of describing my job: In essence, my role is to enhance the customer journey from both a sales and marketing standpoint. The overarching goal is to maximise opportunities to increase revenue through various means, including networking, attending exhibitions and conferences, researching the market and industry trends, and staying up to date with our competitors, etc.

I prepare for the week ahead by: Ensuring I have managed and planned my calendar around various meetings, venue visits, business trips and client gatherings. Accounting for travel time is key! With my role being so dynamic, it is crucial that I am organised, and structure my day with this in mind, often putting an hour of ‘meeting free’ time in the calendar to catch up with admin and emails as well.

In an average week: I am absolutely everywhere! But that is how I prefer it. I always opt for a face-to-face meeting with our internal teams or external clients and attend as many networking or conferencing activities as possible. My hope in doing so is to uplift and enhance our profile. I am very lucky to work with a group of enthusiastic and talented professionals who absolutely take pride in our diverse offering and the quality of our delivery.

Name a challenge in your role:

So far…so good! But that being said, I only started in January 2025!! As they say, the best is yet to come…but, certainly in such a large organisation within an academic environment, and as a non-core income generator, there will be challenges. Right now, the hardest challenge in my role is learning everybody’s name and job role!

Why I love my job: I really love how varied my role can be and thoroughly enjoy meeting new people, tapping into different markets and continuous strategy development for my work and the department. There’s a level of creative problem solving and process streamlining that I also really enjoy. I like to take a holistic approach to my work, viewing it from different stakeholder perspectives, which helps me connect best with my clients and team to ensure we are delivering to the best of our ability.

I relax out of work by: Going on walks…lots of walks! I love being out in nature, fresh air and I usually justify a good meal out or coffee stop along the way! Time with my family and friends is always a priority, and whenever I get the chance, I enjoy seeing the world, both locally and internationally. All of the above really revitalise my batteries!
